Serving God, Changing Lives

Lent Begins this Wednesday

On Ash Wednesday, March 2, the Council will host a soup supper for the congregation at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall.  Everyone is invited to join in fellowship together as we enter this special season.

The Ash Wednesday service, including imposition of ashes, will follow at 7:30pm.

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Note: The newsletter incorrectly listed this service as starting at 7:00pm.

For the remaining five Wednesdays in Lent (March 9 to April 6), instead of an in-person service, a Lenten devotional will be held via Zoom from 7:00-7:15. Those who wish can remain on the Zoom call to participate in the weekly Bible study that follows. Contact the Office hlcoffice@welcometohosanna.com) to get the information for Zoom access.

Throughout Lent, we will be highlighting special prayers to focus the congregation on growing together spiritually. Here is the first:

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is traditionally recognized as the first day of Lenten Season. We willingly receive a cross marked in ash on our foreheads and commit to fasting and praying daily.

“I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness,

and sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.

Psalm 7:17 (NRSV)

Lord, thank you for this season of reflection. We yield to your righteousness. Clothe us in humility as we praise you, The Most High Lord!

Help us focus on a life which pleases you. We, at Hosanna, desire to draw close to you as we fast, pray and read the Bible. Free us from distractions. Let us gravitate to your Word and encounter a closer relationship with you. We yearn for your clear direction and spiritual guidance. In Jesus’ name we pray! Amen.
